European Politics through the Lens of Culinary

Recent legalization banning Kosher (Jewish) and Halal (Muslim) slaughter in  European countries (including: non-EU member states such as Norway, Iceland and Switzerland; and EU member states such as Denmark, Poland, and Sweden, followed lately, by banning initiatives in the UK and the Netherlands) raises question marks about the political trends taking place on the continent. These trends exemplify a growing tension between some of the European Union's core values, and a tension between the Union and some of its member states.  My research deals with the contemporary Political processes taking place on the European continent through an observation on changes related to culinary practices. What lies behind those new initiatives and bans? Who is responsible for them? And what does it imply about the future? These are the questions my research will engage.
